Vladimir Putin made his Annual Address to the Federal Assembly
Citizens of Russia, members of the Federation Council and deputies of the State Duma,
Today’s address will be related to the current situation and conditions, as well as the tasks we are facing. But before delivering it I’d like to thank all of you for the support, unity and solidarity you have shown during the landmark events that will seriously influence the future of our country.
This year we faced trials that only a mature and united nation and a truly sovereign and strong state can withstand. Russia has proved that it can protect its compatriots and defend truth and fairness.
Russia has done this thanks to its citizens, thanks to your work and the results we have achieved together, and thanks to our profound understanding of the essence and importance of national interests. We have become aware of the indivisibility and integrity of the thousand-year long history of our country. We have come to believe in ourselves, to believe that we can do much and achieve every goal.
On concert by Russian pianist Katya Grineva in Gaborone
On November 21, 2014 a concert of classical music by the renowned Russian pianist Katya Grineva took place in Gaborone. The performance was organized by the Russian Embassy in Botswana and Maitisong theatre with the support of “Norilsk Nickel Botswana Company”. Famous compositions of Russian and world musical classics, performed in a romantic style formed the concert programme.
The event was attended by members of the Botswana Government, Ambassadors and staff members of foreign diplomatic missions, compatriots, media and general public.
In his welcoming remarks the Ambassador of Russia to Botswana Mr. Victor Sibilev said that the concert would become a remarkable event in the Botswana cultural life and foster Russia-Botswana friendship. He also noted Katya Grineva’s contribution to promotion of cultural education and classical music in different countries.
Katya Grineva’s concert received a warm welcome of the public and was covered in the local media.
On Russia’s Involvement into the International Effort to Combat Ebola
Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mr. Dmitry Medvedev declared at the East Asia Summit in Myanmar on November 13 that Russia would allocate $20 million to high priority measures aimed at combating Ebola virus. According to the Prime Minister specialists, medicaments and consumables were sent to affected regions. Russia is actively engaged in persistent efforts on development of Ebola prevention and treatment drugs.
Our country has repeatedly suggested to its European partners to integrate national crisis centers into the united regional network. This idea well accords with other countries’ approaches and could definitely contribute to cooperation advancement.
On the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation Mr. Vladimir Putin two An-124 aircrafts of military transport aviation of Russian Air Forces have delivered a mobile hospital and medications in Conakry, Republic of Guinea. Russia voluntarily grants to Guinean colleagues over 150 tons of medical and special equipment for hospital installation. Besides, special vehicles for safe transportation of diseased people from hemorrhagic Ebola fever pandemic regions are being delivered.
The mobile hospital granted to Guinea to combat Ebola virus communication may accommodate at a time up to 200 people being under treatment and quarantine. All the necessary documentation on hospital operation for Guinean colleagues has been previously translated into French.

On Russia’s involvement in the international efforts to combat Ebola

The Russian Federation has been consistently stepping up its efforts to render practical and financial aid to affected countries since the very start of the Ebola crisis. As part of her contribution to the international efforts to combat the outbreak of the Ebola virus Russia has allocated or is planning to allocate a total of 779.4 million roubles (20 million US dollars).
Russia was among the first countries to send its medical personnel and specialists to Guinea and Sierra Leone where this disease had hit the hardest. Direct humanitarian aid with the total amount of 213.4 million roubles was rendered to the West African countries affected by the epidemic. 248.7 million roubles was channelled to strengthen international emergency response mechanisms, including the WHO’s International Health Regulations.
Virologists from the Moscow region and Novosibirsk are in the process of developing a number of various types of vaccines against Ebola. The medicine is expected to be introduced in the nearest months. 162.3 million roubles has been allocated for research, diagnostics, prevention and treatment.
Russia’s involvement in the international efforts to combat Ebola was discussed during the recent meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Director General of the World Health Organisation Margaret Chan held in Moscow. The country is prepared to provide special aircraft and capsules for transporting infected individuals.
The Russian Federation will continue to focus on West Africa’s current public health challenges related to containing spread of Ebola, and to provide targeted financial and technical aid, both on a bilateral and multilateral basis, in order to fight the epidemic.
Embassy of Russia in Botswana launches Twitter account
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Botswana has launched its official account @EmbRusBotswana in the web-based social network “Twitter”.
The new resource will provide updated information focusing on Russia’s foreign policy and bilateral relations with Botswana, activities of the Russian Embassy in Gaborone, events involving the Ambassador and other members of the Embassy staff, commentary on topical issues, announcements on consular matters and other useful data.
Tweets will be issued in the Russian and English languages. Subscribers are welcome to apply Twitter feedback communication vehicle by using the “Reply” function.
The official website of the Embassy www.botswana.mid.ru will remain its primary web-channel of communication.
